Hotel Arrival
Once we arrived in Thimphu we checked in to our hotel Norkhil Boutique Hotel & Spa. We were greeted by several hotel staff that gave us a cup of Bhutan’s famous buttered tea (made from churning tea, salt, and yak butter). It’s an acquired taste but we enjoyed it very much.

Our Room
After finishing our buttered teas it was time to check into our room – a large beautiful room with two double beds, sofa & chair sitting area with a desk that opened into a large balcony. Included a large tiled bathroom with a combination tub and shower. Very modern style with traditional Bhutanese artwork decor. This time of year in Bhutan it gets quite chilly at night but our room was very comfortable – warm, and cozy!

Performance by Mr. Jigme Drukpa
After getting settled and taking a short rest break we returned downstairs for a wonderful performance by Mr. Jigme Drukpa (Bhutanese Folk performer / Songwriter / Ethnomusicologist) – which I’m covering in its own post… Bhutanese Folk Performer Jigme Drukpa.
Afterward (performance), we had a very nice dinner in the hotel restaurant.
Restaurant / Breakfast
Our meals (breakfast and dinners) at Norkhil were all very good – offering many delicious Bhutanese dishes. The staff was fantastic and took very good care of us.
