Morning Walkabout | Wangchuk Dem Village Gangtey

Walk Through Local Community

We decided to take advantage of our early morning by taking a short walkabout in the community near Wangchuk Dem Village Homestay. We started out by walking down the community’s narrow dirt road path (that we originally came in on).

Quiet Frosty Morning

It was a beautiful frosty morning with a mix of clouds and blue skies – in the distance, misty fog hovering over the valley. The sight and aroma of wood-burning in homes across the valley. It was a perfect morning for a walk through the local community.

Beautiful Countryside

There is a lot of beautiful farmland to see here; dense pine mountains in the background, Bhutanese-styled farmhouses, rustic barns and structures, green pasture land (with cows and horses), prayer flag displays, and a mix of unique Bhutanese hand-stacked rock walls and wood fences. It’s common to see small stairs-like structures built on the walls (wall stairs) that allow for easy access.

Cowbell in the Distance

Soon as we walked around the curve of the road, we started hearing a cowbell in the distance. After a few minutes, we were visited by a farmer couple walking their cows and bulls through the community.
