Hotel Arrival

After a full day of traveling and visiting Trongsa Dzong, we were ready to check into our next hotel – Hotel Ugyen Ling Jakar

Hotel Ugyen Ling Jakar (the following morning)

Hotel Ugyen Ling is the first Bhutanese owned Deluxe Hotel in the valley and it is located just next to the historic Wangdichholing palace. One can enjoy great views of the mountains, surrounding valleys, and the Jakar Dzong or the White Bird fortress, from the room balconies. The hotel has 20 beautifully designed deluxe rooms with living room and wood burning stoves called Bukhari.

The hotel’s restaurant serves gourmet meals of Continental, Chinese, Bhutanese and Indian dishes and the bar is well stocked for a night of revelry.

Checking In For One Night

It was getting late in the day (dark) when we checked into Hotel Ugyen Ling Jakar. For this first visit, we would only be staying one night.

Later, when we return to Paro, we’ll be making a return visit to Hotel Ugyen Ling Jakar for one night (on Day 9).

Our Own Personal Bukhari Wood Stove!

After checking in, we all got our room assignments and headed off to get settled in. At this time, it was dark outside and quite cold/chilly. After opening our door, we were pleasantly surprised by how warm the room was. In the middle of the living room, there was a wood stove (called a Bukhari) with a fire going. This was a nice touch because it made our room so warm and cozy.

Our Room

Other than the unexpected Bukhari Wood Stove, our room was fairly basic. It had a small living room area, TV, two single beds, a small area to hang clothes, and a basic bathroom. Nothing fancy, but perfect for our one-night stay.

Hotel Restaurant / Group Dinner

After settling into our room, it was time to meet everyone (group) for dinner in the hotel’s restaurant. I think due to being tired, we forgot to take pictures of the restaurant or our food. But everything was good – service, our food (buffet style) and the restaurant facilities were all great. In total, we had two meals here, dinner and the following morning breakfast (also very good).
