Wow!  All I can say is wow!  Nothing can prepare you for how amazing this complex is.

The Angkor temple complex is an archeological site located in the present-day province of Siem Reap, Cambodia. Built by the Khmer Empire, which thrived from 900-1400 CE, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is the largest religious monument on earth and one of the most significant historical and cultural sites in South East Asia.

Today (Day 1) we started with the “Long Leg” of the Grand Tour Circuit which included visiting:

  • Angkor Thom North Gate
  • Preah Khan
  • Neak Pean
  • Ta Som
  • East Mebon
  • Pre Rup
  • Banteay Kdei

Below will be a sample of photos that we took for Day 1.  I took a ton of photos but I found that after a short time all the temple sites started to run together especially when looking through photos.

Our Tour Driver  – Thol

For the two days that we toured the Angkor Archaeological Park complex, we used a driver through our hotel (Chronicle Angkor Hotel).  We really enjoyed his company and his knowledge of the Angkor complex.  He’s a tour driver through the hotel (Chronicle Angkor Hotel)

Angkor Visitor Center (Purchase Tickets)

First place we stop off before entering the Angkor complex is the Visitor Center.  Here you will purchase your tickets.  They can be purchased in the following combinations:

  • One Day Pass – $20
  • Three Day Pass – $40
  • Seven Day Pass – $60
  • Park Hours are 5am – 6pm

As you will see in the photos, one of the downsides to visiting popular tourist sites is the huge crowds.  For the most part, we just adapted and made the best of it, however, there were times that some people and sometimes large groups were very distracting and frustrating to deal with.
