Wrapping up Things in Myanmar

We’ve had an amazing time in Myanmar!  Tour Mandalay – guides, drivers, hotels, tours, food, sites, and Myanmar people were fantastic and gave us a trip we’ll never forget!

Flight | Yangon to Bangkok

After finishing up things in Inle Lake, we traveled back to Heho to fly back to Yangon.  After our one-night stay in Yangon, we flew back to Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport.

Taxi | Don Muang Airport Bangkok to Suvarnabhumi Airport

After arriving at Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport, we had to get a taxi to take us to the other side of town to Bangkok’s main airport, Suvarnabhumi.  Since on the next day (Dec. 7th) we were flying out to Luang Prabang, Laos, it was more convenient for us to stay at the airport hotel – Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Bangkok

Even though we only stayed here one night, I felt like I should mention it just because it was such a nice hotel – not typical of your usual “airport hotels”.  It is the only official hotel at Suvarnabhumi Airport and opened in 2006 (when the airport officially opened).  It is considered to be one of the top 5 airport hotels in the world (Skytrax).  Not only that, but it is a large modern hotel (615 rooms) and has a huge, impressive indoor atrium.

Our Room

Our room (Executive room) was clean and comfortable (not the biggest of rooms) but it offered the biggest bed we have ever seen! — it would be like putting two queen beds together!

Airport Rail Link

Another cool feature of this hotel is its direct access (underground terminal) to the “Airport Rail Link (ARL)”.  This link takes you to the “Phaya Thai” Transfer Station (8 stops along the way) where you then continue on the BTS to the Shopping and Business District.  We tried it out and were impressed with how quiet, smooth, and fast it was.  We arrived in downtown Bangkok in what felt like 20 minutes or so.
