The temple complex is surrounded by lush tropical forests and offers visitors breathtaking panoramic views of Chiang Mai from its terrace. Inside you can find a relic believed to be from Buddha himself – a piece of bone encased in gold – which gives the temple great spiritual significance.

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep (Thai: วัดพระธาตุดอยสุเทพ, Thai pronunciation: [wát.pʰráʔ.tʰâːt.dɔ̄ːj.sùʔ.tʰêːp], Northern Thai pronunciation: [wa̋t.pʰa̋ʔ.tʰâːt.dɔ̄ːj.súʔ.têep]) is a Theravada Buddhist temple (wat) in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand. The temple is often referred to as “Doi Suthep” although this is actually the name of the mountain where it’s located. It is a sacred site to many Thai people.
