Thanksgiving Dinner at Genevieve’s Restaurant Siem Reap

Due to COVID-19, Genevieve’s Restaurant in Siem Reap closed in early 2021. At this point, ownership changed, and the restaurant was renamed Anzac Bar.

Even though Thanksgiving is typically an American tradition, we still wanted to go somewhere special to celebrate. Genevieve’s Restaurant in Siem Reap came up as one of the highest-rated restaurants in town, so we thought we would give it a try.

As it turns out, this restaurant and its owner have an amazing story. Set up by an Australian, Phil Rogers, and named after his late wife (who died from cancer in 2009).  Originally he had no connection with Cambodia, a few years after his wife passed away he came to Siem Reap with his daughter as a tourist (see Angkor Wat, etc.).  He fell in love with the country, so much so that he gave up everything back in Australia and moved to Siem Reap to teach English to poor children.  After being there a few years and with the help of locals, he opened Genevieve’s Restaurant.

The restaurant was set up to give back to the community (Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in Southeast Asia).  10% of all their profit is divided between the staff. 10% is split between 4 charities, and the remainder goes to a school/community project around Siem Reap.

On this day of giving thanks, I cannot think of a better place to spend our Thanksgiving!

Our Menu

  • Whole Red Fish – Sweet & Sour Style
  • Green Mango Salad with Chicken
  • Lok Lak with Beef
  • Bread with Butter
  • Dessert – Mango Liqueur Pancakes with Vanilla Ice Cream
Whole Red Fish – Sweet & Sour Style

From the incredible food and awesome service, our entire experience was amazing – so much that we ended up coming back a few more times! In the evenings, the restaurant is very busy, so it is highly recommended to make a reservation.

Update on Phil Rogers

While updating my old posts on our website, I came to realize that Genevieve’s Restaurant in Siem Reap had closed in early 2021. When we visited the restaurant in November 2015 it was located at 158 Soksan Road in Siem Reap. At some point later, Phil moved across the road and then later to a nicer and larger location on the other side of the river (on Bamboo Street).

After doing a bit of research, it appears COVID-19 caused Phil to close Genevieve’s Restaurant in early 2021. At this point, the restaurant changed ownership, and it was renamed Anzac Bar.

I found an update on Phil from the Ability Fair Trade Village (AFTV) website, stating that he was “now enjoying a quiet life in the country with his family“.

Phil would later turn the original restaurant location into Genevieve’s Fair Trade Village – a not-for-profit fair-trade social enterprise that sells high-quality, locally made art and crafts made by local people with disabilities. You can read more about this amazing program at:
