Nyaung Oo – Local Market
After getting picked at Bagan Airport (around 7:50am) our tour guide was ready to start visiting sites in and around Bagan. Our first place to visit was a daily market in the nearby town of Nyaung U (also know as Nyaung Oo). Typical as most of this type of markets you will find a variety of merchandise such as spices, fish, meats, fruits, vegetables, clothes, shoes – you name it, it probably can be found here. As great as this local markets can be then can also be a bit touristy which means the prices can be a bit higher than the markets that just cater to the locals.
These various size balls are made out of bamboo and are used to play a “kicking” game popular in Southeast Asia. Generally known as “Sepak Takraw” it can have different names depending on the country. Using a similar court as “Volleyball” it differs in game play as in its use of a rattan ball and only allowing players to use their feet, knee, chest and head to touch the ball. More about this game can be found here.
