Bamboo Bridge to Pizza Phan Luang

Thanks to TripAdvisor, we stumbled onto a great little hidden pizza restaurant called Pizza Phan Luang. Our first experience went so well that we had to come back for a second visit, on our last night in Luang Prabang (12 Dec 2015).

Getting to this establishment was quite the journey that required walking over a local handbuilt bamboo bridge (over Nam Khan River), then walking through a small residential area until we came across a small little sign that said “Pizza”.

Apparently, the local handbuilt bamboo bridge that crosses over Nam Khan River is seasonal.  It is rebuilt every year after the rainy season.  We were lucky that it was there because it made it easy for us to walk to Pizza Phan Luang otherwise we would have had to get a taxi.

The impressive structure is created with bamboo poles that were tied together with rope and logs, creating a unique archway over the river’s surface. The bridge can support up to 30 people at once and has become a popular tourist attraction due to its distinct features and breathtaking views of Luang Prabang, providing an amazing photo opportunity for visitors. The locals use this bridge on a daily basis for commuting from one side of town to another, and it has become an integral part of their culture.
