Mekong Riverview Hotel Luang Prabang

Welcome to Mekong Riverview Hotel Luang Prabang, a charming and luxurious hotel situated overlooking the lush Mekong River in the beautiful city of Luang Prabang. This stunning four-star hotel offers its guests the perfect combination of luxury and convenience, ensuring a truly memorable stay. From impeccably appointed guestrooms to delectable dining experiences, this hotel has everything you need for an unforgettable vacation.

Our check-in process at the Mekong Riverview Hotel was wonderful – greeted by the hotel manager, Bounvone Keonida, with hand towels and a tropical drink.  He sat down with us, going over all the details of the hotel and the city.  He gave us a map of the town, going over in detail all the best places to visit.  Also at this time, we met the owner of the hotel, Urban Paulsson (you can read more about him here).

The first thing Urban did when he met us was to invite us for wine in the “Viewpoint Café” at 6:30 pm that evening (more on this a little later).  After this, Bounvone showed us to our room.  Our room was a suite on the second floor overlooking the Mekong River.

We are a beautiful boutique hotel with a personal touch, located on the tip of the peninsula, in the historic center of this UNESCO World Heritage Town. The view you have from the rooms and Café/Restaurant is the confluence of Mekong River and Nam Khan River. The Hotel is quiet and peaceful with the beautiful former Royal temple Wat Xienthong as your immediate neighbor.

Mekong Riverview Hotel is spread out over 5 buildings all constructed in 2007 in classic Luang Prabang architecture with a total of 24 rooms, from Junior Suites to our Deluxe Rooms both with Mekong Views and Mekong Sideviews.

All our rooms and suites are fully air-conditioned and include the latest facilities to make your stay at our hotel an unforgettable experience.

Wine with US Ambassador to Laos | Mekong Riverview Viewpoint Café

We did take Urban’s offer to join him for wine that evening at the hotel’s Viewpoint Café.  This was a wonderful experience as we got to meet and talk with Urban and with other guests as well.  One person in particular that stood out just also happened to be the United States Ambassador to Laos, Daniel A. Clune, who was also staying in the hotel.  Daniel is in town for the town’s celebration of the 20th Anniversary of its inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which happens this coming Wednesday, the 9th.  It was a very nice evening, and we enjoyed it very much.

The big highlight of this celebration will be an Elephant Parade in Luang Prabang which takes place tomorrow (09 Dec 2015).  We plan to be there, taking plenty of pictures and videos!

Entrance, Lobby & Grounds

The town of Luang Prabang is much like a peninsula, with the hotel on the lower end facing the Mekong River. The five buildings that make up the hotel grounds are all fairly new but built to look older using the old traditional Lao architecture.

Our Room

The beds! — yes, the wonderful beds here are Tempur-Pedic from Sweden (the owner of the hotel is from Sweden) and each side of the bed has its own power controls.
