Harajuku’s Takeshita-Dori Street

Today’s Events:

Harajuku – a district in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan, is known internationally to be the center of Japanese youth culture and fashion.  Shopping and dining options include many small, youth-oriented, independent boutiques and cafés, but the neighborhood also attracts many larger international chain stores with high-end luxury merchandisers extensively represented along Omotesando.

Takeshita-Dori – would be considered the main pedestrian shopping street in Harajuku.  This street (and area) is world-famous for setting current and future popular fads. The type of shops located here is known as “antenna shops,” which manufacturers seed with prototypes for test-marketing. Very popular with young teenagers, particularly those visiting Tokyo on school trips, or local young people shopping for small “cute” items that would be considered popular at the moment.  It also has become a very popular destination for visiting tourists (such as ourselves 😉).
