Good Morning Thailand | First Day in Bangkok

Waking Up

We just woke up, It’s 9:41 am in the “Land of Smiles”.  We both are a bit groggy, but overall we feel pretty good.  We take a peek out of our hotel, we have a corner room, so we have a few views to choose from.  It’s overcast and looks like it has been raining some.

Yes, Gary, off in the distance is a golf course.  It’s the historic Royal Bangkok Sports Club, which started in 1901. Gold is one of the many sports activities that take place here.

Our First Day in Bangkok

We spent our first day in Bangkok checking out the shopping complexes – Central World and Siam Paragon. Our hotel is located off Sukhumvit Road, which is one of the main roads through Bangkok.  Like most major cities, they have a subway/rail system that runs throughout the city.  In the area where we are, they have an elevated combined multi-rail (BTS and MRT) and walkway system (called SkyWalk) that runs over the middle of Sukhumvit Road.  With all the heavy traffic congestion, the SkyWalk is the safest and easiest way of getting around the shopping district.

Bangkok City Views from Ratchaprasong Skywalk

Bangkok’s Ratchaprasong Skywalk is a great place to visit if you want to see the city from a different perspective. The Skywalk offers stunning views of the cityscape, and it’s a great place to walk and take in the sights and sounds of Bangkok.

If you’re looking for a unique shopping experience, Ratchaprasong is the place to be. With its many shops and malls (CentralWorld, Siam Paragon, etc.), Ratchaprasong is one of the best places in Bangkok to find whatever you’re looking for. Whether you’re looking for souvenirs, clothes, or just about anything else, Ratchaprasong has it all.

CentralWorld Bangkok

CentralWorld Bangkok is one of the largest shopping malls in Asia (9th largest in the world) and is a great place to visit. It is located in the heart of Bangkok and you can easily walk to it from most hotels.

CentralWorld Bangkok

The mall has over 500 shops and restaurants, as well as a movie theater, and an ice skating rink. They even had a wing just for European and exotic sports cars (such as BMW, Rolls-Royce, Lotus, Lamborghini, etc.). There is something for everyone at CentralWorld Bangkok.

CentralWorld Food Court

The food court (as of 2013) at CentralWorld Bangkok offers a wide variety of Thailand cuisine. We found the prices to be very reasonable, and you can get a lot of food for your money. You can find almost anything you want here at CentralWorld food court.

We tried Som Tum (Papaya Salad) and Thai Noodle Soup – both very good! We finished off our meal with some Thai dessert – Mango & Sticky Rice and Lod Chong with shaved ice.

Siam Paragon Bangkok

Siam Paragon is one of the most popular shopping malls in Bangkok. It is located in the heart of the city, near the Siam Square area. The mall is easily accessible by public transportation and is a popular destination for both locals and tourists.

Siam Paragon Bangkok

The mall features a wide variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options. There is something for everyone at Siam Paragon. The mall also has a large aquarium, an amazing movie theater, and a large food court on the lower level. There was even a Krispy Kreme here! Visitors can easily spend a whole day exploring all that the mall has to offer.

2013 CentralWorld Holiday Market

We finished the night out by stopping off at the Central World Outdoor Market.  This market was made up of 3 sections.  There was hot Thai food (cooked in front of you), cold-prepared Thai foods, fresh fruits (and fruit drinks), Thai desserts, and Thai Pulled Tea (see last pictures).  Then there was the area that had plants and flowers.  The last area had games set up much like what you see at a State Fair.  Everything looked and smelled so good.
