Doy Kuay Teow Reua Boat Noodles Bangkok

Ever since we watched Mark Wiens several years ago mention that his favorite Boat Noodle restaurant in Bangkok was Doy Kuay Teow Reua we always wanted to go check it out. Today was our lucky day!

Boat Noodles at Doy Kuay Teow Reua Bangkok

Boat Noodles – is a Thai-style noodle dish, which has a strong unique flavor. Generally, it contains either both pork or beef, as well as dark soy sauce, pickled bean curd, and some other spices, and is normally served with meatballs and pig’s liver.

What makes this item really special is the addition of nam tok – which is either cow’s or pig’s blood mixed with salt and spices, to season the soup. It also may include a combination of garlic, fried garlic, radish, cinnamon, bean sprouts, parsley, morning glory, and some Thai chili flakes.

The color of the soup is similar to beef noodles soup but considerably thicker due to the blood added. It is commonly served in a small bowl, but at 50 to 60 cents per bowl, it will not break the bank to order several bowls. Typically, you will have a choice of thin rice noodles or egg noodles.

Boat noodles are commonly served with condiments such as vinegar, chili, bean sprouts, basil/sweet basil pork crackling/skins, and crispy wonton wrappers.
