Beijing National Stadium (Birds Nest)

The Olympic Green is an Olympic Park in Chaoyang District, Beijing, China, constructed for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Since then, the streets around the park have been used for an exhibition street race of the FIA GT1 World Championship in 2011, after a race at Goldenport Park Circuit in the vicinity. It again served as an Olympic Park when Beijing hosted the 2022 Winter Olympics.

The National Stadium, also known as the Bird’s Nest, is an 80,000-capacity stadium in Beijing. The stadium was jointly designed by architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron from Basel-based architecture team Herzog & de Meuron, project architect Stefan Marbach, artist Ai Weiwei, and CADG, which was led by chief architect Li Xinggang. The stadium was designed for use throughout the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. It was used again in the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. The Bird’s Nest sometimes has temporary large screens installed at the stands.

2022 Winter Olympics

Hosting the Winter Olympics In 2022, Beijing became the first city in history to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics. The Beijing Olympic Park was the site of the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the main stadium for both games. The park also featured a hockey arena, a speed skating rink, and a curling center.

2022 Paralympic Games

Also in 2022, China hosted the 2022 Paralympic Games at Beijing Olympic Park. The Games took place on September 6-17, 2022, and was the first time that the Paralympic Games were held in China.

The Paralympic Games are an international multi-sport event for athletes with physical disabilities. They are held every four years, following the Olympic Games. The Paralympic Games were first held in Rome in 1960, with 400 athletes from 23 countries competing in eight events. Since then, the Games have grown enormously.
