5 Days Market Kalaw
We were lucky enough to be visiting Kalaw during one of their “5-Day Markets”. As our tour guide explained, the local Kalaw Market is held daily and vendors rotate between the surrounding local towns.
However, on every 5th day, people from all surrounding villages come to trade their goods (such as fruits and vegetables, fresh tea leaves, and hand-made crafts). This is known as the 5-Day Market and is considered the best day to visit.
With all the different surrounding ethnic cultures present, this market was a real treat and probably one of the more interesting markets we have ever visited. Another thing that was fascinating to see was all the unique clothing styles (especially the women’s colorful tribal headdresses).
